Today sees the global launch of the Trollbeads Summer 2017 collection. Those of you who follow me on social media (Facebook, Instagram and the VALINOR Boutique Instagram page) have hopefully now seen a little of the new Dancing Butterfly Spacers which I’ve been styling on a couple of Harry Potter themed bangles.

If you’ve missed the previews, here’s everything you need to know.
Trollbeads Summer 2017
The collection consists of just three pieces. Two of these are earrings and the third are the spacers. All three are created from the existing Dancing Butterfly design by Louise Rimpler. The spacers are retailing at $92 or €84 for the pair. The earrings are retailing at $45 or €41, while the Dancing Butterfly Studs cost $57 or €52.

We’ve also been promised new styles of Trollbeads uniques over the summer, perhaps to make up for the distinct lack of glass. Indeed some of these new styles have started to appear at Blooming Boutique but they’ve been interspersed by a lot of older feeling designs too.

Trollbeads Summer 2017 Summary
I want to start by stating that I really love the new Dancing Butterfly Spacers. I’m a huge Harry Potter fan. I grew up absorbed in that world and they are the perfect Golden Snitch spacers. If you like Harry Potter, they’re essential. Unlike some of the decorative spacers, they also sit tightly so you don’t need to worry about losing beads.
Three products for a summer collection is underwhelming however. Particularly when as a bead brand, two of those products are earrings and all feature exactly the same core design. I’ve received so many questions from collectors assuming my preview was wrong (no it’s not,) or that there’s an additional collection brimming with glass (no again.) While I appreciate that there are new uniques appearing, they aren’t the solution. The Danish market no longer gets uniques at all despite the fact Perlen and Diamonds4Ever were a huge source for most of Europe and the US market. Uniques are incredibly scarce now in Europe which forces collectors here to shop in the USA (and in turn risk import duties.) To date I’ve predominantly seen one retailer over there with the new beads and that doesn’t make up for a lack of glass in the release.
Trollbeads have been incredibly quiet this year. It’s easy to assume they just feel quiet compared to Ohm Beads but let’s compare 2017 to 2015.
By July 2015, these are the releases we’d seen for the year:-

- Trollbeads Spring 2015 – January 23rd – (Aqua Kit, Delicate Kit, four hematites, Sea Glow, twenty four assorted silver pieces.)
- Trollbeads Mother’s Day 2015 – February 20th – (Mother’s Rose and two silver beads)
- Trollbeads Party Time – March 2nd – (single glass bead)
- Trollbeads Good Luck Starter Bracelet – March 6th
- Trollbeads Easter 2015 – March 20th – (Daffodil Tassel, two silver beads and a lock)
- Trollbeads Copper Collection – April 30th – (bangle, spacers and bead)
- Trollbeads City Beads – May 22nd – (9 silver beads)
- Trollbeads Sunbeam Kit – June 4th – (6 stone beads)
- Trollbeads Day 2015 – June 5th – (one glass)
By July 2017, here are the releases:-
- Trollbeads Tiara – January 20th – (tiara plus seven spacers)*
- Trollbeads Spring 2017 – February 17th – (Enchanted Days Kit, seventeen assorted silver pieces)
- Trollbeads Mother’s Day 2017 – March 3rd – (Roses for Mom glass and Opposites Attract silver (already available in gold))
- Trollbeads Feel Good Starter Bracelet – April 7th
- Trollbeads Universal Unique Leather Bracelets – May 5th
- Trollbeads Day 2017 – June 17th – (single stone)
*I’m a little loath to consider the tiara as a core collection.
Obviously most of us are happy with quality over quantity but there has been a distinct lack of substance from the brand during the first half of 2017. The Trollbeads Autumn 2017 collection is due on September the 8th, alongside the People’s Bead 2017 winner. It’s possible there is something else in between now and then but certainly nothing I am aware of. I’m hoping the brand has something amazing scheduled for the autumn season.
