This Trollbeads blog celebrates Trollbeads Day 2017 with inspiration starring the Golden Rutilated Quartz.
This article was originally intended for Saturday but I got so caught up with social media for the competition myself and VALINOR Boutique have been hosting that I needed to delay it. Apologies for that! Obviously Saturday was Trollbeads Day 2017 and the brand marked with the occasion with the limited edition Golden Rutilated Quartz. It’s a staggeringly beautiful bead but with a high retail price and the latter has been the source of much controversy within the community.

I’ve actually already shared quite a lot of inspiration for this bead both in the review and then scattered across social media (follow me on Facebook, Instagram and the VALINOR Boutique Instagram page) as I have been wearing it extensively. I don’t wear full bracelets often but this is another combination I really adore. I need to reorganise my ambers a little as unfortunately it borrowed a couple from my moth inspired bracelet which I’m planning to keep together permanently. (Actually I’d like to stack these two together!)

Trollbeads Day 2017 Inspiration
The theme of the bracelet was to combine some golden colours from the rutilated quartz and ambers, alongside some darker labradorites and just a hint of green sparkle. I was aiming for a very organic, nature inspired bracelet with a touch of the fantastic. Think fairies, fireflies and enchanted gardens.
I’ve also included just a couple of my beads from the original anniversary bracelet of 2006. There’s a bead index at the end of the article.

Trollbeads Day 2017 Summary
I knew I’d like the Golden Rutilated Quartz from the initial previews. I love amber so the colour was likely to suit me. I really like the organic feel that gemstones bring to a bracelet compared with glass. I’ve also always preferred stones that have veins or veiny looking inclusions. I’ve been wanting a pale emerald with dark inclusions for the longest time. I must confess that I had a strong preference for the paler coloured quartz as the darker, ginger colours would have been difficult for me to style, though ironically they seem to have been the most popular.
I do completely understand the community outcry regarding the price however. I don’t follow the artisan market so much but I am aware that several are offering these stones at a far cheaper retail price. Indeed a couple of Trollbeads retailers have opted to do the same. Ultimately whether a bead is worth it’s value or not is a matter of personal opinion. If you’re going to wear it extensively, then absolutely. If you want to collect all of the Trollbeads Day beads, then there’s that aspect too (and the core is stamped with the year.)
As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on the Trollbeads Day 2017 bead? Did you manage to attend an event? Have you indulged in the bead itself? Hit the comments and let me know!
