This Redbalifrog blog brings live images of the newly debuted Redbalifrog Other Myths & Legends collection.
Friday saw the launch of the new Redbalifrog Other Myths & Legends collection and as the name suggests, it’s an expansion on the original series. I loved the original release which is no huge surprise considering my lifelong romance with the fantasy genre. That said I feel this second collection is superior because it features such iconic symbols. In some sense it feels a more adult collection or a less trivial execution of the theme (and I mean that in the best way possible.)

My own beads didn’t arrive until half an hour before the release was due to go live and needless to say I’d already written the article using stock images. I shared live images on social media (follow me on Facebook and Instagram) during yesterday but of course not all of my readers use those platforms. Today I’m sharing some studio images here while I attempt to find time for the dedicated reviews. Do remember Redbalifrog are fully compatible with Ohm Beads or Pandora charm bracelets.
Redbalifrog Other Myths & Legends
My favourite piece from the release is the new Redbalifrog Green Man. Though the Green Man appears to have his roots firmly embedded in Paganism, as an icon he’s spanned many different cultures. My earliest encounters were predictably via literature and specifically Tolkien and Robert Jordan. I love being outside and most especially in forest settings so the whole concept has always held quite the fascination for me. Of course the motif is most associated with rebirth, regrowth and thus it’s a perfect bead for a celebration of the spring season. The Redbalifrog Green Man is quite a typical representation with the face surrounded by foliage. The bead is identical on both the front and back and the hallmark is on the base.

Second to the Green Man my next favourite would be the new Redbalifrog Ouroboros. As symbols go the Ouroboros is ancient, has appeared in a few different forms or patterns but is essentially always a dragon or serpent biting it’s own tail and is a representation of the endless cycle of nature and circle of life. Again my first introduction to the symbol was through literature and via The Neverending Story. The Redbalifrog Ouroboros is a dragon as opposed to a serpent and more of an Eastern style than the Western variety. He has beautiful green crystal eyes which happen to be a near perfect match to the True Beadz True Potion (review here) glass. It’s worth mentioning though that this is quite a small bead by Redbalifrog standards so pay particular attention to the size comparison with the glass below.

The Redbalifrog Balinese Troll should please many collectors who missed the original and long retired Thai Troll. From the front he’s quite a traditional looking design though the rear does show the Om symbol on his naked back. He’s a good size with an incredibly cheeky looking expression on his face. The hallmark can be found on the base.

I suspect the Redbalifrog Bee Goddess will prove very popular. Once again as symbols go, the Bee Goddess is ancient and the Redbalifrog design is incredibly loyal to the earliest examples found. I’m particularly appreciative of the fact that the motif looks carved into the silver which is again faithful to the imagery as early versions were plaques. In mythology the bee itself was considered sacred and it was believed to bridge the natural world to the underworld. It’s worth noting the bee engravings along the edges and the motif itself is identical on the front and rear. It’s also of similar size to the existing Redbalifrog Queen Bee.

Surya means Sun in India or Nepal and is also indicative of the solar deity for Hinduism. It’s also a motif found on India’s many sun temples and this is the inspiration for the Redbalifrog Surya the Sun bead. Again the design is very traditional and loyal to the carvings which I love. It’s not a huge bead but beautifully detailed. The design is identical on both the front and the rear though it’s button style means the sides are plain.
