Redbalifrog Friendship & the Sea Revisited

This Redbalifrog blog brings a little bracelet inspiration for the Redbalifrog Friendship & the Sea collection.

I’m quite certain some readers will be confused by the title of this post and pondering whether they’ve missed a new release. The Redbalifrog Friendship & the Sea collection actually launched back in 2011. It was the first release I covered for the Australian brand all those years ago. I’d like to think my photography has improved since then and with the brand being relatively new to US based VALINOR Boutique, we’d planned to revisit some older designs and collections.

As the name implies, Friendship & the Sea was a beach and oceanic themed release with just a touch of the fantastical as it introduced the Mermaid Lock. Redbalifrog locks are nearly all compatible with Trollbeads bracelets (and this one most definitely is,) so they can offer an interesting alternative for collectors.

Redbalifrog Friendship & the Sea

The silver beads on this bracelet are nearly all Redbalifrog, inclusive of the Mermaid Lock. I used the Trollbeads Compass at one end as I needed a slender bead. I often find oceanic bracelets an excuse to experiment with brighter colours. When I think of the Great Barrier Reef, my mind is always flooded with shades of turquoise, orange and red and that’s precisely what inspired this creation. It’s not a typical colour scheme and it’s definitely out of my comfort zone. It’s worth noting that I’ve included a couple of the Trollbeads Peacocks from the small & beautiful uniques of years ago. I thought the eye design could be apt for tropical fish.

Redbalifrog Friendship & the Sea Summary

This release holds a certain fondness for me because it was the earliest collection I personally witnessed. I’ve always been most appreciative of Redbalifrog clasps and indeed this is what initially attracted me to the brand. Typically of Redbalifrog the silver beads are larger and more akin to Trollbeads (or at least the sizing of older Trollbeads.) The various shells are definitely worth considering if you like beach themed bracelets as they’re chunky enough to be easily visible on a bracelet where most other brands shells seem really quite tiny.

Finally as a side note the Redbalifrog Sea Urchin is a design I often use on space or night sky inspired bracelets as I find the texture so appealing for some kind of meteor.

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on the Redbalifrog Friendship & the Sea collection? Do you own any of these beads or are any of them perhaps on your wishlist? Hit the comments and let me know!
