Ohm Beads Rainbowed Review

This Ohm Beads blog brings a dedicated review of the limited edition Ohm Beads Rainbowed.

The limited edition Ohm Beads Rainbowed launched at the very start of June. It uses Ohm’s iconic barrel shape, which I’ve actually grown so fond of over the years despite initial scepticism and a universal core ensuring it’s compatibility with Pandora charm bracelets. It retails at $40, €39 or £35.

Though I loved the idea of this bead, the bright colours definitely place it outside of my comfort zone. My samples for June were super late arriving but I’ve now had a couple of weeks of experimenting.

Ohm Beads Rainbowed

Rainbowed is created from the six bands most associated with pride. This gave me an instant appreciation for the bead. I live by the ethos that love is love and it shouldn’t have boundaries. Ohm did choose to add cloud detailing to the bead and this caused a little confusion as many collectors had mistaken it to be some kind of camera flare or reflection on the stock images.

The colours represented are red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple and there is variation in this area. In the example I received the purple has become a little lost and the green is very thin. The third image below shows a live image comparison by VALINOR Boutique and if you are very particular about the bead, it is worth shopping from live pictures.

Despite loving what the bead stands for, I was a little hesitant as to whether it would work for me. I generally prefer darker colours and I’m an autumn person. Brights are very out of my comfort zone. Brights all mixed together can be a little intimidating. I decided that I could always use it as a focal piece on a bangle but in the end I found different inspiration. I’ve spoken before about how much I love rain. I’m always at my most productive and creatively motivated when it’s raining heavily outside. I find it so tranquil. I’ve experimented with numerous stormy skies bracelets in the past and I’ve been thoroughly enjoying the new True Beadz Shadow glass as they fit so well for a rainy day theme. For this bracelet I’ve used Rainbowed as the focal point on an otherwise grey bracelet. The silver beads were mostly chosen for their flowing lines that in some way were reminiscent of clouds or wind. There’s a bead index at the end of if you’re unsure of any specific design.

Ohm Beads Rainbowed Summary

This is a super cheerful, well executed bead though of course there is a little variation in the colours and the width of those bands. I do want to touch an issue that was raised on multiple occasions however and that’s suggested copyright. From the moment this bead was previewed there were suggestions that it was a copy of the Trollbeads Celebrate Life bead from 2016 (pictured below.)

The beads are different shapes and different cuts (remembering Celebrate Life is faceted.) Ohm have quite deliberately represented the six colours associated with pride where Trollbeads opted for five. Ohm even included the cloud detailing. Ultimately there are only so many ways that a rainbow coloured bead could be represented and no one can realistically imply that Trollbeads have any kind of ownership of that. I can’t show direct comparisons as I don’t have Celebrate Life (I never liked the core) but there is no possible way the two beads would be mistaken for each other by any collector.

Rainbowed is lovely though it is a bead I’d recommend purchasing in at least pairs just for the ease of use.

As always I love to hear from my readers. What are your thoughts on the Ohm Beads Rainbowed? Did you indulge in this bead or is it still on your wishlist? Hit the comments and let me know!
